St. John’s Night / Noc Kupały – Poznań, Poland

So they did it again. In Poznań – the city in west Poland, half way between Berlin and Warsaw, where also my family and friends live -ighting up apparently 18,000 lanterns on the shortest night of the year on June 21st, in a bit to beat the Guinness record.
Indeed it is a magical night, and it has always been special to me since I was a kid but we rather used to put candles or flower wreaths into the water – rivers, sometimes lakes. The flying lanterns are quite a new thing, but the magic still remains. remains.
