Manish Arora – Indian designer, now mostly based in Paris, showing his name-brand at each Fashion Week, also as a creative director being part of the relaunch of Paco Rabanne brand, and here in Tokyo mostly “connected ” with Vermeerist Beams and its Tomoko Inuzuka who,as I always say, discovered and introduced Manish for Japanese market.
As many already know his designs are very graphical, colourful and architectural in the same time, with heaps and heaps of amazing embroidery – showcasing Indian original crafts which are just amazing and beautiful. Back home in India, he is a star he is a celebrity, quite well known and respected in Paris fashion scene, and having fans among fashion “critiques” such one and only Susy Menkes /Herald Tribune/ as well as among stars like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga or Rhianna to name few.
I had a pleasure to meet Manish personally here in Tokyo while he was invited by Vermeerist Beams for his exhibition and another time while being a guest of Katy Perry and MTV for MTV Music Awards. I also collaborated with him once for his kind of mood board few years ago when I did images based on his designs and fabric swatches sent to me by his studio; and just recently for BEAMS autumn / winter 2012 catalogue for Vermeerist BEAMS page including Manish designs.
I am very close to and a big fan of Vermeerist Beams `s Tomoko san and also In san /before buyer for Vermeerist Beams, now The General Store/ who I truly consider as one of my great friends and the fact is I was introduced to them by Manish`sbusiness partner Deepak Bhagwani who I met the first around 6 years back. So my stay in Tokyo is really connected to those wonderful people and I know I am so luck to meet then and having them around. Respect.
on the way to MTV Japan Music Awards, with Manish and Tomoko san /Vermeerist Beams/ who s wearing Manish`s pieces, of course
