This time Karl Lagerfeld takes Chanel, and all of us on the way, for a journey up to the north – Scotland. The collection Metiers d`Ar, to remind, is a very special one, launched over 8 years ago and focusing on French craftsmanship – artisan businesses specializing in different crafts as jewellery, millinery etc. Chanel owns apparently 7 of them and not “keeping” them exclusively for itself, bu rather allowing also to work for outside clients – to keep them “busy” and in the same time to preventing them from disappearance from quite “aggressive” fashion business which nowadays we witness. Sum it up this collection is based on hand-made “art pieces” and inspired, this time, by Scotland – think Queen Mary as a tradition and history and Tilda Swinton as a modern woman and perfect face of new Scotland /she is Scottish indeed, lives there and also is featured in new campaign for the brand/. There are here, of course, lots of tartan patterns – woven as well as printed /on denim e.g./, coats, jackets and dresses based on Scottish kilts, and furry boots too but all is quite royal and almost for every occasion – from hunting to evening gown including.
The collection can be viewed on youtube channel of course, but I had an opportunity to see it almost under the magnifying glass. Not everyone can just “touch it” and really see the art of the details, which is a really the core of the collection and Chanel itself, in a real close up. Please enjoy the picture and big thank you to CHANEL Japan, especially to its PR team, for this amazing experience.
TILDA Swinton shot by Carl Lagerfeld – the best ambassador for this collection for sure!!!
